DIY Potpourri

There’s nothing like a smell that can take you back years even decades to a fond memory.  I can still recall the reminiscent smell on my first date at 16, caramel popcorn…..Weird right?! When I walk in my home, that’s what I want– to feel at home and smell my home as well! The only way that works for me is a nice, clean, crisp smell.  I regularly burn incense and earthy candles but nothing relaxes me more than making homemade air freshener.

The mornings are cooler in Atlanta and I am here for it.

I love fall! Time to layer up. But with fall I burn stovetop potpourri frequently. Although there are are ample amounts of ingredients to choose from my favorite is lemon slices, vanilla extract and rosemary. This combination is amazing. Everyone that visits simply loves it and asks for the recipe.  I’ll take a compliment wherever I can get it.

So simple and easy, you know me, if it ain’t quick I probably won’t try it…..Yeah, yeah, yeah I know….the recipe haha!!

Fill a pot 2/3 with water, add one sliced lemon, 1 Tbsp of vanilla extract and 3 sprigs of Rosemary.  Bring to a rolling boil then reduce heat to a simmer.  This will last several hours.  When my water runs low I add more and continue to boil.

Mmmmmm can you smell it! I’m making some now!!

Some other combinations I like are lime and thyme, orange cinnamon cranberry, orange lemon rosemary sandalwood. Try and yell me what you think?

What at are some smells that take you back to a happy moment? What ingredients would you try?
